About Royal Oak Real Estate

Royal Oak, Calgary is a residential neighbourhood in the northwest quadrant of the city.

Royal Oak, located near the northwestern edge of the city and adjacent to the community of Rocky Ridge, is primarily residential and has been growing by leaps and bounds in recent years. Bounded by Country Hills Boulevard to the north, Stoney Trail to the east, Crowchild Trail to the south and Rocky Ridge Road to the west, this land was annexed to the City of Calgary in 1989 before the municipality of Royal Oak, Calgary was established in 1997

Royal Oak Housing and Demographics

The community of Royal Oak, Calgary counts approximately 12,000 residents and 4,000 private households. The average household size is larger than the average for the greater Calgary area, and nearly a quarter of the Royal Oak population is below the age of 14. The large household size and young population are a testament to the popularity of this community with growing families.

Roughly 85% of the occupied private dwellings in the Royal Oak real estate market were built during the huge phase of growth this community saw from 2000 to 2010. This recent construction and development means that most houses in Royal Oak, Calgary were built with modern materials and techniques so most remain in excellent condition.


Home to many children, Royal Oak has been steadily adding schools over the years.

In response to the growing number of families in the area, the Calgary Board of Education opened the Royal Oak School in September 2010 to accommodate students from kindergarten to grade 3. A new middle school, the William D. Pratt School, was opened in 2016 for students from grades 4 to 9. 

Both of these schools are attended by children from Royal Oak and its neighbouring community, Rocky Ridge. When students reach grade 10, they are served by either Robert Thirsk High School in Arbour Lake and St. Francis High School in Brentwood.


Royal Oak, Calgary has a large and growing number of amenities for residents to enjoy.

In addition to the abundance of public parks, there are many ways to soak in the beautiful landscape. The Stormwater Ponds include a number of small, man-made lakes and natural ponds all throughout Royal Oak. These well-maintained features are home to an abundance of wildlife and make great spots for bird watching.

For runners and cyclists the Stoney Trail Pathways, on the south side of Royal Oak, provide ample room to explore thanks to lengthy paved trails that lead to some breathtaking views.

The Bearspaw Country Club offers golfers 6,868 yards of beautiful vistas and challenging terrain on its 71-par course. For day-to-day or business needs, the Royal Oak Shopping Centre and adjacent Royal Vista Business Park is home to many restaurants, retail stores and professional services.
